If you are unable to complete an assignment or in-class test due to circumstances that are outside of your control you can apply for extenuating circumstances (ECs). Extenuating Circumstances are unforeseeable and outside of your control. This can include physical illness, mental health crisis, being a victim of crime, and sometimes personal issues regarding family illness or other personal crisis.
Please note that extenuating circumstances do not include events such as computer problems, planned holidays, conflicting deadlines, running out of time, computer failure, difficulty in obtaining books from the library, minor transport delays or having to take paid work.
To apply for ECs you will need to use the task on MySIS. Please note that any requests for extensions must be made no earlier than one before and no later than 24 hours after the assessment deadline.

We offer a wide range of Elevate modules which can help you to maximise your performance at university and improve the quality of your academic assignments.
If you are an international student, and English is not your first language, then these modules are suitable for you.
Home students who have English as their first language also find they benefit from the academic skills that these modules develop.
-
Students who wish to learn a language in addition to their main programme of study can study one 15-credit or 30-credit module per year, either for credit (if your programme allows) or not for credit (it will not contribute to your degree result).
Our Language Centre offers Arabic, Bengali, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish, for all levels from beginners (A1) to advanced level (C1).
Our staff will help you achieve a high level of communication in your chosen language, in both every day and professional situations.
